2021 Baja SAE Knowledge Event

For the first time ever, the static and dynamic portions of this season’s Baja SAE events were split into different competitions. Static events were held virtually, while the dynamic events and endurance races were held at validation events in Kentucky and Arizona.

CWRU Motorsports performed superbly at the 2021 Knowledge Event, finishing second out of 156 teams. This podium finish was both the highest cumulative static event placement in team history as well as the highest overall finish at any competition for the team.

The team’s best placement at the Knowledge Event was second place in the newly redesigned Business Presentation event, the team's highest placement ever in this category. While the team was disappointed to miss out on design finals, CWRU Motorsports still managed to achieve the highest score of any non-finalist team. This fifth place was the second-highest design finish in team history. The overall cost of the SR21 went up as compared to previous years’ cars, due to the mandatory addition of a four-wheel drive system. However, the compact and lightweight nature of the SR21’s custom 4WD system meant that CWRU Motorsports’ overall vehicle cost went up less relative to the competition, leading to a competitive result in the Cost event.

The team is ecstatic to have finally made it onto the podium at an official competition and hopes to keep up this level of static event performance in future seasons.
