The Sandy Southern California Competition

In the end of May, team members attended the Baja SAE California competition held at Quail Canyon Special Events Area in Gorman, California. Teams from 100 schools went head to head in the four-day competition in challenging Dynamic and Static events all leading up to the four-hour Endurance Race. CWRU Baja Off-Road Racing took the lessons learned at the first competition in Tennessee to greatly improve the car for the competition. All of the team's hard work paid off and the team finished 23rd overall for the second best showing in the team’s 15-year history! Some more highlights from the weekend included placing:

4th place in Sales

8th place in Acceleration

12th place in Design

The team has made great strides throughout the year to engineer a very competitive car. In the Endurance Race, the team kept up with top teams for nearly two hours before coming out of the race because of issues with the gearbox and steering clevis. In both cases, the team came prepared with spare parts and worked together to get the car running again quickly.

The team is making final adjustments to our car before the season finale next week in Rochester, New York, June 9 – 12. The team plans to make all our sponsors, alumni, and university proud; stay tuned for results!
